Kylemore Abbey, Connemara,
County Galway
| Kylemore Abbey is situated in breathtaking scenery in the heart of the twelve Bens in Connemara. The Abbey is home to the Benedictine nuns. It was built in 1868 by a Manchester business man named Michell Henry for his wife Margaret. Its design is neo- gothic & the Abbey displays all the features of that period. The Benedictine Nuns bought the Abbey in 1920 having fled their convent in Ypres, Belgium in 1914 where they ran an international boarding school for girls for over 300 years. The nuns re - established the school here & it is still very much alive to - day. You can experience the peace & tranquillity of Kylemore Abbey by visiting its Abbey & neo gothic church & its recently restored walled garden. | ||
